I have given up on the thought of keeping the '57 original with the 272 and 3 speed and have decided to modernize it a bit with a 302 or 351W and a 4 speed automatic. Leaning towards EFI and the Ford 4R75W transmission.
I would really like to go 351 if I can find a good specimen just for extra HP with minimal build but still want to build it some.
Has anyone stuck a 351W in their Fridge body with a more modern 4 speed auto and how easy was the transmission to get in there? Also we're you able to get headers on or have to go with manifolds?

I swapped the 292 and 4 speed in my ‘59 for a 302 and a C4. There are conversion kits for the motor mounts and trans cross member. Really easy install. I went with a Lokar goose neck type shifter. It fit through the original shifter hole in the floor. Also really easy. New drive shaft completed this swap. There is plenty of room for long headers.
