as i mentioned in my last post, i am restoring a 1977 f150, 2wd, single cab. the ultimate goal is to make the truck a sleeper. it currently has a 302 with an automatic transmission, both with 120,00 original miles. i also have a spare 302 out of a 1967 galaxy, 3 330's out of 60's dumptrucks, and 2 351w's out of 1980's f250's. i am unsure of the mileage on any of these engines. which engine would be the strongest, and easiest to modify? whichever one i choose i plan on rebuilding and mating to a manual transmission. also, all of the 330's have 4 speed manuals. are these swappable between the 330, 302 and 351w? thanks for any help.
My vote goes to the 351 as well. For basically the same money, you can make gobs of power strokin' the 351 vs. the 302. Don't know about the availability of speed parts for the 330's. I love the idea of a nice, simple sleeper. Same thing I'm doing but with a stroked 302.
You would spend the same amount of money on a power rebuild for a 302 and a 351W, but the 351w will make alot more power and should bolt right up to the motor mounts and transmission w/out a problem.
You might have to do some fabrication or get new mounts and stuff for a 330 to work.
'nother vote for the 351. Give it a stroker kit and you'll get a great deal of power out of it. A built 330 would go over good at carshows, but for a sleeper the more power the better, and all the headaches of getting 330 parts isn't really worth it.
