Electrical - grounding question
I have a 99 F250 with a 6.8 in it. on the intake you have studs that hold down the ignition coils. do those studs act as a ground for the coils ?? I broke one of the studs and now when the truck is at idle it is very rough but when driving the truck is fine. I am just curious if this broken hold down stud could be part of the issue. Also on the rear axle where the ABS sensor is located I found the hold down bolt was stripped out and missing. In looking at the new Ford sensor I purchased I noticed it has a brass insert where the bold that holds it down is. Does the bolt holding the sensor in place act as a ground for the sensor? The threads on that one have been stripped for years and I am going to repair it here today but I am still a curious one about it !!! Any comments on this would be helpful. Thanks

No, the brass inserts are not ground connections for the injectors or ABS sensors. All connections for those devices go through the wires. A good scan tool like Forscan will show if/where there is a misfire.
