After living out west until recently vehicle rust wasn't really a problem. Even living on the coast, no complaints. We recently moved to central KY and man alive Ive seen more rusted trucks, jeeps and vehicles than I need. I keep ours in a shop or garage, but can help but ask what's their fate here. Im OCD and hate to see them rot away. I don't know if they salt the roads here when It snows, or its just the humidity alone. I'm looking to replace the jeep I left behind when we moved which would require leaving my SD outside which I really cant fathom. Is the rust part of life in the east where roads are salted even if you never drive them when there is ice on the road?
Im not even sure they use anything here or even plow from what the locals tell me. Slacker county is what they say. Ive never see so many wasted, junked jeeps before but then and again they are prone to disintegrating even in dry climates. Been there done that 3 times so far.
If you think there are a lot of rusted vehicles in Kentucky and you can’t stand the sight, you don’t want to go further north to Pennsylvania, NJ, or New York. In upstate NY you’ll see trucks only a few years old with rust holes.
Growing up in MO, just S of KC, boy howdy, talk about rust... any wrenching job required cans of penetrant, and sometimes the blue-tip wrench, then when the Marine Corps dropped me off at El Toro in '91 I was absolutely blown away by the condition of the trucks and cars, 30, 40 yr old trucks, no rust!
Even growing up, I'd spray my truck off at the car wash in town at least 2x a week in winter, still had rust, only option back there is to not drive it in the winter, if that's not possible, wash it as often as you can, especially the under carriage and every nook and cranny... I do NOT miss the rust belt for that reason.
Im thinking now to buy a sacrificial pile just to drive in winter. Sure seems like everything is way overpriced but my S/D trucks, unless their diesels of course.
Used to be local trucks were good but anything from VA and KY north you could tell right away from the rust. Now because of the crazy amount of spray and salt they put down the line has moved further south to find clean vehicles.

I live in WNY... I think you may be stretching the truth some... unless you're talking GMs...
I have a 16 that has no holes but does have some rust but I get under it every year and spot treat. I also get it oiled at Carwell Products each year as well.
I have some issues in the bed wheel wells that I am currently dealing with (after finding out about the foam in the bed wheel wells), thread in the 6.7 section, but it doesn't help matters that the big 3 put foam between the bed wheel well and inner wheelhouses... but my body and frame are pretty clean for a 9 year old truck here. My cab corners are clean and solid but Carwell sprays inside the rockers where vehicles rust from the inside out.
No doubt vehicles will rust here if measures are not taken, but you are exaggerating by saying two year old vehicles here have holes already.
