is this kind of rust easy to fix? Or not? I'm a fair mechanic but have never done body work. What would I need to do to this truck's numerous rust spots to stop the rust process and to repair it good enough for any inspection? I don't at all care about finished look - heck I'll leave it primer gray or black.
The blue book on this particular truck/plow is $4,944.
I'm in Maine and have no idea what inspectors will say about rust.
post has already been deleted so cant see what rust there is.
but to make a basic answer, rust is easy to hide.
surface rust is easy to fix.
body rot is hard to repair, and usually comes back.
there are rust neutralizing agents like ospho and POR -15 that treat the metal and convert rust from iron oxide to iron phosphate and them you seal it.
if done rite, it will last dang near forever. if not done rite it will only fall apart again in 5-10 years.

I searched within a 200 mile radius on CL last night for gas F-350's, found THREE. This guy was one of them. I emailed him, "If you still have this on May 11, I'll give you a call." He replied, "How about March 11th?", which didn't compute for a full minute. So I replied to that with a simple explanation of how I'm saving each month and will be in a position to make a reasonable offer on May 11th."
So apparently there's a high demand for F-350's in the world.
Sounds like I need to buy a truck with NO rust issues, though. If it shows on the surface, it's got to be pervasive, is my thinking.
If F-350's are rare, I might be smart to be thinking about buying an F-250 for the homestead project, in case the preferred vehicle is too rare to find one when it's time to buy, Maybe I should look at other make one tons. I wonder if other makers have those solid front axles in their one ton or 3/4 ton trucks...
