I had he Bakflip on my old 2012, It absorbed water and weighed 200 pounds. The rails inside all came off too over time. I decided to try something else this time.
It failed at 2 years. Glue separated from slats made it difficult to close. They disengaged from each other and that made the top crack. Started to leak right after that. They replaced the cover under warranty. No longer have that truck so I put the new cover up on marketplace. As it turns out MP is full of new covers without the rails (warranty replacement). So basically it is $250/year. After 5 years you start over.

I've always been baffled by the design of the revolver series. Doesn't water pool when it rains? Even a half inch of water over that area is pretty heavy pulling down on the whole cover. The el cheapo trifolds typically have a small hump in the middle and water rolls right off, that's why I stick with those for ~250 that can last 5-10 years depending on usage. Snow country would be a different story of course.
I had one of these on my F450 but I'm short and need orangutan arms to get over the fenders. Nice cover though.
Last dually I went with retractable, and now I'm REALLY lazy, electric retractable. The Retrax Power Trax was faster than the Bed Locker, but the Bed Locker is smoother and seems more rugged. Having had all three I'm probably leaning with the Bed Locker if you're willing to get electric.

The new Gen 3 model is definitely much more water tight. Looks great on your truck! @DV8 Motoring
So I assume you are referring to the MX4's? And if so, what has changed? Because neither the first one I got around November 2021 or the replacement which came a few months later are "water tight" whatsoever... And I figure by your statement of being "definitely much more water tight" that it's a pretty common thing with these covers. Between not being "water tight" and the end caps at the seams poping out when I close it, the Backflip MX4 has been a huge disappointment. And not one I would care to repeat, or recommend.
I had a retractable one on my previous truck but I didn't like the room the box took up. not removable. I'm looking for another option myself, thinking about just the roll up, easy to take off.

I had a roll-up Revolver on my last truck, really liked it. It rolled up against the cab and secured nicely. It had aluminum slats and locks along the side - just a deterrent to pry it up from the side. It also locked in place with the tailgate closed. I'd get one again if I needed one.

I have the BAK revolver on mine. It's 8 years old, truck always outside. It's remained mostly watertight throughout the years. I can still run it through a car wash and maybe get a half al pint of water in there which I think it pretty good. The aesthetics after 8 years is about what you'd expect, vinyl shrinking a bit and cracking in places after 8 years of rolling it back and forth. It still works as designed however. The big issues (which is solved with the next generation) is the felt stuck under the cover so you can roll it without burning your hands (on hot days) or pinching you hands in the joints. That fell off and everything I tried to get it back on has failed.
I did have some of the plastic parts that secure the top into the track break. It was my fault. I washed it when it was below freezing, then went to costco and bought a couch. We were outside ready to load it and I could not get the top open. I had to force it open which is how they broke. I told BAK that I broke it and they sent me the replacement parts "under warranty" anyway.
Net-net, I am ordering a new bak revolver next month.

BAK Industries made improvements to the overall design, which included improved seals, tight fit clamps, and an overall tighter fit into the bed. No cover out there is 100% waterproof, but as long as you have everything installed properly, it's the next best thing!

Well with the 2 that I have had, I will say that there is plenty of room for improvement in all of these areas. And mine are installed correctly, but far from waterproof. Well, as correctly as it could be... the second one I received had holes drilled slightly out of line. It sure would have been nice if they would have replaced this one since it was worse than the first one that I had to destroy so they would send the replacement, but instead they ghosted me when I reached out about this one.
