Hardware differences HO vs non-HO

Hello all,

As the title states. What are the hardware (not software) differences between HO and non-HO engines?

Are any of these pieces of hardware different between the two variants? Please cite information sources. Thanks.

- fuel pump
- injectors
- turbo
- charge air cooling
- pistons
- rings
- crankshaft
- cam and valvetrain

I read the Tech Folder and didn’t see this and spent some time looking for a thread identifying hardware differences between the HO and non-HO engines.

Thanks for any comments!

The main differences are:
Water cooled Turbo
6% over fueled injectors
HIgh volume CP4
2qt larger oil pan
Stainless exhaust

Thanks!

Are injectors physically/mechanically the same (same part number) between HO and non-HO?

Is the CP4 physically different or is it operated differently between HO and non-HO?

We had a discussion here on the dipstick differences, and have shown how the upper oil pans through the different gens are the same dimensions, so I don't believe the pan is any bigger, unless you have documentation to show that it is.

TFL talked with one of Fords engineers about the two engines and I have not been able to find where it has been posted here. The two engines are basically the same with only a few differences, the turbo, SS exhaust manifold, and some cooling changes. The fuel pump, oil pan and injectors are the same.

Here is the video that strider mentioned.

I can tell you that my 23HO runs about 150° hotter than my 2020 6.7L did.
So some of the changes for 23 were to handle the extra heat. Climbing a 7% road at 65 mph towing my horse trailer, I routinely see 1450-1475° on the my EGT1 Same trailer, same road, I'd see 1300-1325 on my 2020 truck.

I do use about 20% more DEF than my 2020 truck.
I do get about 10% better fuel mileage than my 2020 truck. The savings in diesel more than offset the extra DEF.

Regens are much shorter. In fact most of my regens are accomplished with Passive Regen. But the truck still initiates an active regen every 497 miles. But theDPF usually doesn't have much soot in it an the Active Regens are done it 5 to 10 minutes.

The fuel savings is due to the shorter regen cycles. a 5 minute regen vs a 30 minute regen saves a LOT of fuel.

Considering the higher EGT's, the water cooling is a must.
