Ho?

I want to know what "HO" stand for and means.
as in I have an Escort with a 1.9L HO engine.
I know DOHC means: Double OverHead Camshaft
and SOCH means: Single OverHead Camshaft...
but what Does HO mean?

Ho?

It could be compression ratio, cam, larger capacity injectors??? I am not that familiar with that engine. On the 5.0 it is all that I listed.

Well, as far as what THEY call high output, it varies. It can be something as simple as a different cam to gain a few HP, that's up to the manufacturer to determine.

On the Escort 1.9, as I recall, well, wait, I don't recall. I'm sure someone here knows.

If I remember right, the 1.9 was a mazda engine. the H.O. designation was given only to the GT models. That was a great engine. I loved my 95 gt, but it had a wire fire that took the whole car at 111,000.

I think the engine had more cam. I remember it screamed above 3K RPM. I loved ripping throught the gears in that car. OOOH, the memories!

1.8

I think your thinking of the 1.8 mazda engine. they made a DOHC 1.8 that stays with any civic 5 speed.

Your right, it was a 1.8, my bad. I still loved that engine. The 1.8 was adapted from the mazda protoge of the same year.

I used to run the hell out of it racing imports when I had it. I gave that car about 30,000 miles of beatings. my sister ran it down to about one quart of oil. it sounded like somthing was going to come through the rocker cover before she finally relized engines take oil. it must have been a Long time because it never used oil and still doesn't. it has a 145,000 miles and still runs STRONG who knows how long it would have lasted.
