Tailgate problem

I parked my truck on a hill with the passenger side downhill. Unloaded what I needed and when I went to close the tailgate it wouldn't close. Appears the tailgate has a lot of side to side play at the hinges. I bought a tailgate bushing kit for the hinge and it did nothing as old bushings were about the same as new. Bed is original, never been hit, tailgate is original. Anyone seen this?

Did you try pushing the tailgate uphill while closing? Will it close when moved back to level (L to R) orientation?

Yes, sliding the tailgate sideways and it works fine. On flat ground I can slide it and it won't close then slide it back and it closes fine.

I can't say that is normal because I have never tried mine at an extreme angle but you could shim the pivots to tighten things up so the tailgate does not have so much play side to side. Thst is what I would do if it was mine and had that issue.
