So I cleaned up my cruise control servo on my 1996 F250 4x4 last week with the 5.8, made sure the electrical contacts were all clean. During this process, I noticed on the underside of the top lid it said "1993 Ford," so I am supposing my current cruise control servo is off an earlier truck.
I am looking at some eBay listings for cruise control servos, and I see one (1) listing so far for a pre-owned servo, the listing says the servo needs to be re-programmed at the Ford dealership. Is this true, that they have to match the servo with your truck's VIN? Or can a junkyard cruise control servo be obtained, and it can be installed without having to go to the dealership?
When I was looking in the junkyard a couple of weeks ago and doing some preliminary research, it astonished me on the 1997 and newer Ford vehicles with the similar cruise control servo, how much easier it was to remove the bracket screws; since the servo bracket orients the servo on its side instead of the bottom where water can flow through and rust the screws.
