Timing / idle issues on 5.0 EFI
Timing / idle issues on 5.0 EFI
So I'm not totally sure if this is the right place for this question or not, and I have several things going on in the project we are working on.
Main issue is we pulled the motor out of an 89 LTD Crown Victoria and while it was out we changed the timing chain. I cannot seem to get this thing in time for anything. I removed the SPOUT connector, used timing light moved distributor multiple times etc. We had it running ok but it was idling really high so I went to dial the timing back just a little and now nothing seems to work. When i try to check the timing marks on the harmonic balancer it seems to be off but before purchasing a new harmonic balancer I wanted to make sure I was heading in the right direction. I have attempted to check for vacuum leaks, cant find any, thought about it possibly being an issue with the battery or the computer, or the fuel injectors, etc.. Hoping for a little guidance.
Currently I can get the truck to crank but I have to hold the pedal to the floor to get it to crank.
Also as a little more information the motor, transmission, wiring harness and computer came out of an 89 LTD Crown Victoria, it is actually in a 66 Ford F100 body.
Any help is greatly appreciated

I’d start over by verifying TDC on #1 cylinder then checking what is shown on the damper as well as the position of the rotor.
Pedal to the floor turns off the injectors to clear a flooded engine. Are you saying the engine will not crank with your foot off the gas pedal?

I checked TDC today but my son was helping me and it looked like the mark for TDC was about an inch away from the mark where it should have been if I was doing it correctly. That’s what made me question it. I will recheck it again tomorrow and see where it’s at.
yes it will not crank unless the throttle is wide open if I let off of the pedal like press all the way to the floor and then let off it will try to crank.
