Today when i left work i noticed my overdrive button was flashing while i was idling in park (97 f250-HD with E4OD). on the way home, my transmission would go out of overdrive on its own. The button seems to work but sometimes when i hit the brakes it would go out of overdrive. I did a KOEO and KOER code scan. on the 1st attempt i messed it up and got a few codes but on the 2nd attempt, i only had one code from KOEO, being 565. Not sure where to go from here because that code has to do with the EVAP system, not the transmission. I saw there is a guy named Mark Kovalsky who seems to know alot about the transmissions. I'm new to this forum still if anyone could tag him in this thread (if its possible) id appreciate it
Transmission codes are downloaded with engine codes, if your reader can read transmission codes. Not all of them can.
If you messed up and stopped the process while it was downloading codes, that will clear the codes. You may need to drive it more to get the code to set again.

My truck continued to have the issues and flashing overdrive even after I messed up getting the codes. Shouldn't it be sending the codes still?
also, I was talking to my mechanic about it today and he says it might be the range sensor that is causing this. It's already been replaced before I can tell because it looks new. And my speedometer works fine so I know it's not VSS. What do you think?

It is sending the codes. What reader are you using? Maybe it can't read transmission codes.

Yes, that could be the problem. So could the shift solenoids. Or the torque converter solenoid. Or the torque converter itself. Or the temperature sensor. Or the turbine speed sensor. Or the output speed sensor, or a mechanical problem inside the trans. Or a damaged wiring harness Or several other things that could go wrong.
If you get the transmission codes, we'll know where the issue is. Without the transmission codes, just start replacing everything i listed.
The switch itself could be bad.
I had no trans problems or shift problems, but had random blinking O/D light, was the switch, cheapest trans part to fix.
Pull the O/D switch out and keep it off, go for a road test, do you still have it leave O/D while driving?
