Question ECM or TCM

Hello everyone, I have a 1993 f250 4x4 extended cab with 7.5 and e4od. i had transmission issues with this truck for awhile. while in drive it would some times, not all( it would work great for weeks then mess up for several days to a week). it would hit 1st and second just fine but then would not hit 3rd.I could manually shift 1st to 2 then try 3, same thing, RPM's would hit 4k if I let it. I thought it was transmission issue so I pulled it because I did not know history of this transmission. I put in another e40d from a 1990 parts truck I have that had a good transmission, I knew history. This ran fine in 1990 when parked. My question is would the ECM orTCM not sure what controls tranny. would 1990 ECM Or TCM interchange into 1993?????they are both f250's, 4x4, extended cab 7.5 automatics

ECM —> engine control module if you have a manual or non-electronic (AOD,C6) auto transmission

PCM —> powertrain control module controls both the engine and electronic auto transmission (E4OD, 4R70W).

My assumption would be that you cannot use the ‘90 computer in the ‘93 but I don’t know.

TCM -> Transmission Control Module, found in non-electronic diesels, same EEC-IV, but only does transmission.

I prefer fords naming EEC -> Electronic Engine Control. And to the OP, your trucks EEC also controls the transmission, all in one box.

Which is why I left out TCM since it does not apply to the 460 in the OP’s truck.
