Looking for someone who has experience with AOD and can possibly explain why this issue just started happening to me. The shift timing is late and hard when the transmission is in D on shifter (gears 1,2,3). The shift timing is normal when the transmission is in OD on shifter (gears 1,2,3,4). How can this be ? The timing has always been the same whether you were in D selector or OD selector until yesterday.
Do the normal things first. Check the fluid level and the color of the fluid.
Thanks for your reply. Fluid was a tad high so I siphoned some out and got it into good range. Color is still nice, fluid was done about 6 months ago (about 500 miles ago).

possible a problem with your vacuum modulator or a vacuum leak?
[QUOTE=rword;21666056]I don’t believe there is such a thing on aod.[/QUOTE
very possible🤷♂️ but the OP in for pure hell if its not a simple issue of fluid level or vacuum. I always look for the simple fix first. AI says it has a tv cable instead, controlled by the ecm. 😞 my bad.

Why is the TV adjustment ok when it's put in OD, but not ok when he puts in it "D". That is the question. He needs to ask a transmission guy I think.
Not having a AOD transmission I thought you put it in "D" with the circle and you locked out OD on the end of the shift lever?
Or in it marked P - R - O - D - 2 - 1 ???
Both of the autos that I have, a Dodge SUV & Ford car that have OD it is P - R - D - 2 - 1 with the lock out button on the shift lever.

So it looks like Max has two "D"'s, one with a circle one without. I have a 2002 f150 with the switch on the lever, but it's not a AOD it's a 4R70W which is a later electronic version of the AOD. The AOD is not electronic, the TV cable does it all.
Here's how my AOD works, (by the way) there should be a label on the drivers sun visor,
If I put it in drive, it will not shift into OD, if I put it in OD, it will shift at 45mph into OD, unless, I lift off the gas sooner.
that's the same shift pattern as mine! what's happening is if I put shifter in (D), it drives perfect and shifts 1-4 at the correct speeds. If I put shifter in D, the shift from 1-2 takes forever and is very hard.
