Was just wondering if I need to change my upper fuel filter on my 2017 6.7. I have a FASS system on the bottom end. I'm finding it hard to find just the upper; all I'm finding is the conversion kit to go from plastic to metal. Is it worth going that route or not?

Ford and most aftermarket companies make fuel filters for the 6.7 in sets. You are going to have a hard time finding just a upper filter for a 6.7. You could just get the cheapest kit out there and keep the upper filter as a filter of last resort however the downsides to that are the waste of the lower filter and the fact you are getting a cheap upper filter that could turn into a diesel fountain on you.
I have the fleece upper filter delete on mine (I am not running a FASS, I still have the OEM low pressure pump), silly easy install and I am using the extra port for low side fuel pressure. HSM makes a nice upper filter delete as well. I don't like how Fass forces you to cut the injector return on their upper filter delete but that is an option as well.
Additionally you could get the small 3/4-16 post filter spin on replacements for the upper filter and have that as the final filter in the system.
However, the profile of the upper filter really relegates you to a tiny filter. There are 4 micron options but they are OEM spec on 75-100 hp skids and mini-excavators with 3.3L engines. You are definitely running them above their effective flow rates on a Cat 1R0749 which can be found on anything from a C9 to a C18, you definitely are staying within what the filter is capable of.
Just my humble two cents, don't run FASS' filters run aftermarket. The swelling media on their water separator is asking for trouble with a CP4 IMHO.
