distributor gear sheared...

Yes, it is the same one that has been in the motor. I tried another one from another 351w that i have, and the gears are wearing out on it, but not sheared right down and broke off like the other one. It did not stick out of the block, so maybe the shear pin hole is higher. Still, it should be the same distributor I would think.
From this point though, the truck will not start now.

Did you replace the cam in this motor? I just recalled a buddy of mine that had a 460 motor do the same thing. He had the dizzy measured and even had the block measured and all checked out perfect. He got rid of that cam and installed another new cam and never had another problem with the pins shearing or tearing up the gears.

Minimum clearance between distributor gear and cylinder block is 0.050". Minimum shaft end play between distributor and oil pump is 0.008" to 0.010".

These specs are as supplied with part M 6605 A341, hardened oil pump drive shaft for 351W application.

IT totally sounds like the gear on the cam check it again sometimes its hard to see down there WHAT els could it be to much end play in cam??
