Here is a great video on the CCV filters that covers all the Super Dutys model years. As far as timing, best bet is to replace them yesterday! lol... There are 3 current options for replacement, no matter what year model you have.
1. The most current 23+ Ford CCV filter
2. SPE Recirculating CCV filter
3. CCV Reroute
Replacement is pretty easy, with the back 2 bolts the toughest to get to and then to hold onto them, but it's not impossible to do so. I just changed out the one on my 22 a couple months ago. I was going to reroute to atmosphere, but I am currently in CA so didn't figure that would have been a good idea, so I went with the 23 OE filter for now. Next summer when I leave I will either go forward with the reroute, or I may end up just using the SPE Recirculating filter.
He's off a bit on the years but still gives a good enough idea of some of the OEM variants. The box he says was used 11-16 is very similar (visually almost identical) to what was used 17-19 on the F-250 and possibly some SRW F-350. The next box that he claims started 17MY was actually first introduced 2020MY.
I figured the year models are somewhat generalized, and knowing Ford, I would imagine it was varied and even crossed over throughout the years (like some of the 23's were actually on the 22's), and maybe even more so when you look at chassis vs pickup... I don't know, but the teardown and information in the video was quite helpful and insightful.
