ive been threw hell trying to sort out a pinging problem ive been having with my 94 F150.. 302
I parked the truck for quite some time over this. But now it needs to be put back on he road we lost the van from a acident totaled.
I have installed pluges, cap, roter set timing [with spout removed]
cked EGR seems to work fine.removed EGR ran a coat hanger in the port to make shoure it was clear. cleaned mass air cencer
using 98% alochal had a injector service well 2 times i didnt like the way it was done the frist time the secound time i had it done with a motor vac thats the way to go ..There are no codes that i know of ..had a guy run a test and if i remember there were 2 codes ..one was somthing to do with the test no being doen right
or somthing to do with not having the right tester..

I had a similar problem a while back and did most every thing that you did including blocking the egr off but to no avail. My truck would even ping on the flat! I was running Shell regular gas at the time. I swithed to their mid grade and the pinigng stopped. I have run Chevron regular with no pinging so I have concluded that Shell regular is not fit to burn in my truck. I have had problems with Shell fuels before in a Toyota Celica as well as a 62 MG. Try a different brand of fuel or move up a grade to see if the problem goes away

Darn it james,

I just posted a similar problem with my 1993 in the inline six section. It has also been driving me nuts.

You may want to check out that thread title:

1993 F150 Spark knock.

How were the old plugs? were the combustion deposits on the plugs similar or were 1 or more plugs abnormally different from the rest?
