Hello everyone I just had a set of 235 85 16 firestones put on my 1975 ford f250 and had them set the rears to 80 psi and fronts to 60 for a better ride could I set to rears to 60 as well for a better ride or is that too low what the lowest I can go in a 10ply tire like that that is safe thanks?
What Rubiranch said....running them at full pressure is a harsh ride. I run mine at 42 in the front and 38 in the rear. I only pump up the rear tires when I pull the 26 ft Evo and 50 psi is enough to do the job. This is actually on my 2019 F150...but also applies to any truck running 10ply tires.
Yes, drop them down, a lot! On my 77 F250 4x I run 35 F and 30 R unless I'm cutting wood, then I'll bump the R up to 45, when off-roading I'll drop down to 20 F and 15 R, none of my trucks are at "recommended" pressures.
In mid 2000's I lucked into a 97 F350/CC/4x/7.3/ZF5 for a very very nice price, even for back then due to the owner having all the tires at 80psi, all the shocks adjusted to max.. it drove/rode absolutely terrible and everyone that looked at it previous to me walked away because of it he told me. We agreed on the price, dad and I went down the next day with $$, signed title and took off, got a mile down the road and pulled off, aired down the fronts to 45, R to 40, dropped all the Rancho's down to 0 and viola! Truck only had 50k on it, also had a BD exhaust brake and Gear vendor OD unit!! Still kick myself for selling that one!
Yes I drop them to 60 all the way around it's a show truck with low miles so what would you guys reccomend for just a smooth ride driving like I said it's a fun show truck so just for a nice ride but not too low where I would have a problem thanks?
