I’m currently working on my 460. It’s in a 91 F250 that I just picked up from my brother. Originally it was blowing black smoke and running super rough. I replaced the MAP sensor on it and it cleared up perfectly but I noticed that the SPOUT connector was sitting in the glove box. I decided to plug it in but with it plugged in, the engine surges super hard and runs like a sewing machine, almost like it’s running on just a couple of cylinders. When I take the connector back out, it smoothes out, but has lack of power. Does anyone have any insight into what I can try?
Try setting the ignition timing with the spout out
It is probably way off
Use a timing light and do it right
After checking and resetting the timing, check it for codes
Keep in mind, you've also got an octane shorting bar in the wiring loom buried somewhere
That is the same plug as the spout plug
If removed, the octane shorting bar will show a code saying it is out
Removing it bumps the timing up for old, tired engines
I appreciate the feedback. I did indeed set it with this plug unplugged. I assume it’s the SPOUt connector and not the octane one. How do I differentiate them?
Here’s the connector I’ve been playing with.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the confirmation. So where do I go from here? Do I just start throwing sensors at it till I find the one that’s causing the issue?
I sure wouldn't
A code test followed by pinpoint tests, then replace the sensors or the processor as the pinpoint tests dictate
You start changing sensors and you're liable to have more trouble than you have now
Known good OEM sensors are far superior to anything you can buy presently
I think you are still down to basic motor function, processor failure or fuel system faults
If it runs like puke with the spout installed you need to start right there with a PCED and verify TDC on the balancer when you time it
Sounds like you are still off on the ignition timing, but it could be a bunch of different things
Have you looked inside the processor? That would be next or now for me
