Angry Hole in block

2017 Ford F350 diesel under 60K miles. Deleted about 2k ago 80 hp tune. I drive very conservative. Hauling my cabover camper to state fair I made it about 40 miles it sounded like I had a tire blow out. I pulled over tires looked fine, oil dripping in front of front differential. Checked oil it looked good. I got towed to Ford dealer they found a hole in the block on drivers side and a piece of the wrist pin. Anyone ever heard of this? All I can think of is C clip must have not been installed correctly and slipped out and the pin finally slid out. If I race my truck or hot rod I would expect things to brake, this is my retirement truck and I baby it?

Anything at all is possible. A teardown would be needed to see what exactly when wrong. With a hole in the block, you're looking at a new short block at minimum, depending on how long you can wait for the truck. If you need it back faster they can drop a long block in it as that's less things to swap over = less man hours.

Not Many cases of motors going out but they are out there…. O clear cause and effect that is made public.

good luck with an extended warranty claim involving a deleted engine.

i would be on the look out for an egr bolt or something that fell into the intake during the delete process 2k miles ago .

I left the EGR in place just unplugged it. The only thing removed was the pipe and plugs so bolts not an issue. I have not done any heavy duty towing since the delete. Daughters 2 horse trailer 30 miles each way a couple times. Cabover camper 30 miles is where it broke flats highway driving around 60.

That is where your problem might begin with Ford covering it under warranty.

My neighbor is doing the same mods and tune to his 2021. I asked in what universe does he believe he needs more power than the 475HP he has now? His RV is 8,800 lbs. loaded and ready to go camping.

We're talking about a 9-year-old truck, Op hasn't mentioned anything about warranty

Yet we still go down the warranty road.

Many people deleted with our adding power. His is a 2017, maybe he's just trying to get up the new world of standards, I believe it was only about 420 horse back in the day.

The engine has a 100,000 mile warranty. Why wouldn't you talk about it ?

EDIT: 5 years and 100,000 mile warranty. So yeah, not applicable.

440HP & 925TQ for 2017, FWIW.

Yes, 5 years came and went in 2022 on a 2017.

I hope the OP didn't take it to Ford. Thats going to cost some BIG $$$$. Always find a good independent shop once no longer under FORD warranty.

That sounds like a manufacturing defect.

I doubt an 80HP tune would cause that damage.

Unfortunately parts failures happen. You don't put a skylight in the block unless something went catastrophically wrong.

X2 would need to tear it down to figure out what actually happened.

I had the rings fail on my old 3.0 Ranger. Truck was meticulously maintained at Ford. Sometimes it just happens. Doesn't suck any less.

Ship it to Dave's auto center in UT and get a "tow monster plus" engine.
