Well.... 150 miles from home. As exiting the interstate, coasting to red light... it downshifted itself hard to first gear. HMmmmm... then as I started moving again... hit second... then abrupt downshift back to first gear.
Luckily we were at the motel we were to spend night at. Took it to local well thought of Tranny shop... he pulled pan as we talked. When broken parts fell out, I knew I was doomed....
He told me it would be ready Wednesday afternoon.... so we rented a car and headed to the east coast for the beach !
Guess I'll be keeping the EX for a lot longer than I had planned to make up for this expense.
I'm glad to see things worked out despite the failure. Good thing you were right by the motel and were somewhere safe.
The most recent time mine quit was May 2021 coming from Dallas. It was leaking from the front seal and the only two reasons it does that is because the torque converter was getting hot or the seal failed. In my case, it was both...
The second time, it quit a mile or two after I left Church one night. I was on the phone with someone sitting at the light, it turned green, I put my foot on the gas to go, and nothing, it free revved. I put it in 1nothing.....2 nothing....reverse......nothing. So got it towed home and I'm pulling it out so builder and I can step through it.
About 25 years ago, My old 1995 7.3 loaded with traller & tractor.... just pulled off interstate, redlight... turned to go across overpass... when it shifted to second.... poof.... nothing... coasted to side road... at least we got out of traffic !
Don't know anything about transmissions... but when he dropped the pan, I saw piece fall out. I'm assuming a clutch ring? He said the broken piece prevented it from shifting.
