I have a 1999 F150 with the 4.6 and the tranny sometimes slipps or has a hard time getting to the next gear. Has anyone had the same problem or has any suggestions for a fix?
The maintenance was done approximately 1 year ago.
When I take off the tranny shutters right before it goes into the highest gear.
Thats with the o/d on.
I have the same problem and my post title is "Hard shifting". I have a call into to a dealer service center and will let you know what they say. I noticed the problem when I changed tire size and was told a programer would fix this. Mine shifts hard at a low RPM, but if Im getting after it, it is not so noticable. Your truck sounds the same. But did you go up in tire size when you started to notice this?
I have a similar situation...sort of. My truck spends most of it's time sitting in the driveway. When I first drive it after a few days of sitting, the tranny slips. After just a couple of blocks, it's fine. It's particularily bad if I don't stop and remain stopped for a few seconds.
With only 26k miles on a 2002 (auto), I can't imagine it's anything other than lack of use, but......
I had a somewhat similar situation as last post. I posted a reply since I think my problem is gone. My truck 2000 F-150 Auto with 138K was slipping starting off when transmission was cold. If I was going slow, to stop, but not actually stopping then taking off again, trans would slip. I explained the problem to a trans specialist whom I know and trust. He told me he thought that the gasket on the trans filter was not set correctly and was allowing the trans to suck air through the gasket. I let him change the fluid to check it out. I had always done myself. When he dropped the pan, the filter fell right out of the trans. He put a new filter in and 5 quarts and truck has not done it since. Been two weeks!! He said to always use top of the line parts, or ford filters and not to use the autozone, quickstop autoparts for this..
