I will probably go back with batteries from Wallyworld. Maybe their Platinum AGM units are the ones made here in the U.S. I'm wondering if the cca...850 FLA versus 750 AMG...would be a noticeable difference.
One of the differences between "cheap" and "good" AGM batteries is mostly the quality of lead used internal to the battery. "Good" batteries use pure lead and "cheap" batteries use recycled lead. I have witnessed this first hand after purchasing both "good" and "cheap" AGM batteries. The good have been NorthStar and Odyssey and the cheap have been Optima and Weize. I will never go back to a FLA battery after being burned repeatedly, but take my chances on the "cheap" AGM's for vehicles that don't travel far from the house. For those that go cross country or into the wild, wild west I choose "good" batteries.
I wish you luck with your selection of batteries and hope they never let you down.
Just put in another new set of Wallyworld Everstart Maxx for free last weekend. Maybe im the only one happy they go out before the 3 year warranty expires so im not out the $$$ shortly after. I haven't had to pay for batteries in years. 6 nuts to loosen and maybe an occaisional ask for a jump every 2 years or so to keep 300 in my pocket? Sign me up!
Nice, what color? Spent alot of time back in the day with a copper on tan 84 GT T-top. It was a Ford rental program car my good friend had that we ran hard and put up wet. The following year he got an 85 GT vert, he special ordered it knowing he would take the buy out at the end of the year...so it was babied, mostly highway miles between Houston and Lubbock Texas. This is the car I have now, it's purdy much stock with some Ford Racing parts...modified stock 4180C carb sitting on a Ford Racing high-rise dual plane intake, re-curved distributor with Ford Racing 8.8mm wires, E303 cam, GT40p heads, Ford Racing stainless steel headers, off road X-pipe, 8.8" rear diff. with 3:27 gear set, etc. Just enough to let it breathe and still be a nice weekend toy for the wife and I...

Wallyworld used to be unlimited warranty, which means the warranty started over with a new set within the initial 3 year warranty period...this is what my original set had. However, now when you get a new pair within the 3 year period, the warranty on the new set is the remainder of the warranty on the originals or 90 days, which ever is greater. So theoretically, you could get almost 3 years and 3 months warranty, but realistically the batteries...original and warranty set...would yield 5-6+ years. Still not a bad deal...I'm just debating if it's worthwhile to move to the Platinum AGM that has another year warranty, but 100 less cca and 30 minutes less reserve.

Well, that's news to me. Guess I'll be in the same boat re-evaluating future purchasing decisions. Better bone up on the other suggestions listed here.

I'm a fan of buy once, cry once... I don't mind paying for quality as long as it is in fact reliable and doesn't leave me hanging.
There is a strategy in something like a Walmart battery, but I felt that replacing the batteries every few years (if I was lucky) was too much of a pain in the ***. I am now at 8 years of solid service from NorhtStar AGM batteries, but they are no longer available and their sibling the Odyssey Extreme AGM costs an arm and a leg.
We travel a lot with our truck and I did not want to be 3 hours from the nearest Walmart and have a dead truck. I was cursed many years ago by the FLA battery gods though, so as long as you don't have the same curse I do, you might be fine with a CHINA FLA.
Some words from our moderator Y2KW57 on battery manufacturers.
Last I’d heard, the rumor on the street was that those Enersys batteries weren’t worth what they were asking for them nowadays and there’s some not so glowing reviews lately. For a long time I was dead set on a pair of them but decided the Walmart platinum was the compromise. AGM for sure is the way to go though IMO. Got tired of cleaning acid mess off standard FLA in the summer. That alone made it worth the upgrade.
So another observation I see is that the Walmart Everstart Platinum batteries are AMG, but have less cca at 750 and 775 (there's 2 versions for some reason). These do have a 4 year...versus 3 year...warranty, but wondering if the extra $40 a piece with lower cca is worth it...
There’s two versions…the old Johnson Controls style 750 CCA and the Korean made 775 CCA version…probably because a huge distributor like Walton Mart needs more stock than any single supplier could give them. Just a guess though. I had to order mine online back earlier in the year since none of the local stores stocked them and the Korean ones showed up. I like the fold-away handles but the stickers on top sure didn’t stay stuck worth a damn.

That may be the case, but I certainly hope not. I personally know someone who bought a pair of Odyssey Extreme for his Excursion a few years ago and they are still going strong. I bought an Odyssey Performance for out 2106 Escape at a deep discount from NAPA. Almost brought the price down to a FLA Wally World battery. That was on 25 Oct 2024 and it is still going strong, expectedly so though.
When it comes time for new batteries on the truck (if I live that long), I am hopeful Enersys will still have their crap together.
I don't hang out on the streets, so keep us informed!

The ones from back in the day around when you bought those Northstars where great, and not even THAT expensive by today’s standards. I was sold for a long time. Started reading a fair amount of negative reviews though 6 months ago when I swapped the Walmart platinums in and I believe even Y2K eluded to them doing some obvious cost cutting. Considering what the prices have done on them it was an easy pass for the 4 year warranty Walmarts that cost half the price.
Granted, my own truck was never used in a situation with high electrical demands, even though I did upgrade to a 160amp high output alternator some 15 years ago. Having said that, after playing around with Optima Red Tops for several years, I ended up relying on the 4 year warranty with Interstate batteries from Costco. I always got full life with no problems. So, again - just for me - with the good battery life plus good warranty plus low cost (roughly $100 each), I just could never justify going back to AGMs or even trying out the more illustrious option of pure lead technology. Again, my own needs were not very demanding. YMMV.
