Radiators and core supports

Long time listener first time caller. And yes I did look at a bunch of posts to try and find my issue first. I’ve got a 67 2wd swb with a 300in it. I just got a core support from LMC and it looks like the core support opening itself not the bolt holes measures 18x27.75. My original radiator is quite a bit more narrow than this. I feel like the core support is for a 302 or larger but has anyone had this issue? I’d like to just put a bigger radiator in there but they’re all a lot taller or don’t have the inlet/ outlet on the correct side for my motor. Any recommendations are appreciated. If I can’t find anything I’m just going to dab up some plate brackets and fill in the space to run my old rad

IIRC, the radiators for 6's vs v8's are different sizes, but I think the 6's just used 2 filler panels on each side of the radiator. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Not sure they had 2 different core supports.

Yes, there are different core supports. I believe there may be three different ones actually;
1) 6cyl core support with the smaller opening.
2) 8cyl core support with larger opening.
3) 4x4 core support.

Good information to have. I had no idea there were more than one. From a manufacturing standpoint, why make more than one? Just adapt the opening to the radiator used.

It is the old time vs money equation. Cheaper to have two different stamping lines going than to have employees try to modify a part. Crewcabs were handbuilt in Canada until Ford wised up and built a specific line for them which might have been during the Dent era with the 74 Supercab.

This is good to know, my radiator support is trash and I'm not sure it's repairable (or worth the time to repair)

A dent side core support can be used with slight modifications. They are galvanized so seem to be in better shape. Here is a link to an article discussing what needs to be done.
