Spindle nut help
My question is, when I had removed the auto hubs I was looking forward to repacking the wheel bearings. I bought the socket for the spindle nuts but the spindle did not have a "3 lock Setup like I have seen in other trucks". How do I remove the complete hubs from the spindle, so I can repack or replace the front bearings?
Did Ford change the design in '95-'96 models?
Thanx in advance,

Check with a good tool shop to be sure which one you need. You should also get a bright flashlite and take a good look at the nut to get a fair idea what you need. It is not clear from your note what kind of nut is actually there.
Most of the Ford trucks I have read about and mine in particular, require one of those large(maybe 3 inch diameter) sockets with 4 or more metal fingers that are about 1/4 inch wide. Those fingers go into notches in the nuts and on some models thay also depress a lock washer/spring behind the nut.
I vaguley recall on mine there is a wavy waher between the two nuts and there is one nut with a pin on it that goes into a hole on one of the washers. I would need to look at the manual and or tear mine apart to be sure. In any case, you should be able to get things out with the right socket and an impact wrench.
Some trucks can be finicky. My 94 F250 requires 2 different sizes actually brands of socket. Supposedly the front and rear use the same size, but my truck does not work with the same socket on both wheels. I had to buy two different brands of socket even thought they are technically for the same model. They are just enough different that one works on the front, the other works on the back, weird.
Anyway, my guess is you need the right socket with ears on it.

Thats wierd that you would need two different sockets on your truck, then again the tool companies would be at of bussiness...

But when I spoke to Superwinch about a year ago, They told me no. Now I see that on their site it is mentioned about the kit.
I just hope I havent screwwwwd anything up....There is no play or anything wrong with the hubs, but I would like to have it right...
Thanx again,
Jo
