ECU reset when hitting a bump

I think I may have a wiring issue, wondering if monitoring some PIDs might help narrow down where to look.

Vehicle is a 2004 E350 Van w/ 6.0.

If I hit a big bump or pothole, sometimes the van acts like the ignition was cycled for an instant.

Ignition chime sounds, Water in Fuel, ABS and CEL lights all illuminate briefly.
Cruise control cancels/ turns off, and if I have OD disengaged it defaults back to on. This van doesn't have the tow/haul button, it has OD on/off like the older trucks.
I believe the Accelerator pedal resets also, I feel like I have to lift off the pedal and reapply.
I don't remember the gauges sweeping or the WTS light illuminating, but I could have missed them as it's so random I'm not usually paying attention to those things.

The engine does not die or loose power, just a hesitation from the accelerator pedal needing to be 'reset', the lights quickly extinguish and we continue driving.

The only codes stored are for a deleted EGR butterfly, a P0299 boost code and a couple glow plug codes.

Since it affects the transmission and WIF light, I don't think it is a FICM or sync issue, it seems like the only thing that could cause it is something related to the power circuit of the ECU, or maybe the actual ignition switch and wiring.

I'm going to hook up forscan and record while driving around looking for bumps. Any suggestions on what to monitor?

FICMSYNC
FUELPW
ICPv
ICPp
ICP_DES
IPR
RPM
SYNC
Ficm voltages
BattV
Any other voltage references I can find

I'll save you a headache: I had this happen on a buddy's early '05 F250. I watched the same pids you did, hit a bump and watched the PCM reboot (WTS light came on). That happens because somewhere in the engine harness it's losing the 5 volt reference and/or shorting due to chaffing. We ended up replacing the engine harness and that fixed the problem.

So to confirm, I could probably hook a scope up to a couple 5v ref lines and ground lines to monitor?

I highly doubt I will ever be able to find a replacement harness, 04 6.0 van is very close to a unicorn wiring wise.

Yes, for him it was the EBPS harness and sensor. We fixed that, then it kept happening just less frequently, so we opted to replace the harness.

I'd also interconnect the grounds to the battery ground.

Does the engine harness have a separate body or frame ground from the battery negative? So just a jumper from that ground location to battery negative?

That's something I can do before my trip home.

I don't remember at the moment but I tie them all together on every truck I touch and people are shocked at how much better they run. I'd also ground the alternator to the battery as well. You can ground it using one of the holddown bolts or bolt it into the rear of the alternator.

Just to be clear, which grounds are you connecting directly to the battery grounds? And does it matter which battery?

Any grounds I can find hooked up to the engine harness. Im going to check out a wiring diagram and see how many there are. This is a van so it's a little different than a pickup, but not much.

Either battery would be fine.

It looks like the ECU gets all it's grounds at G107, which is also where the under body mounted batteries have their negative connection. One of the differences between a van and the trucks.

I'll disconnect, inspect and clean, but I probably won't be able to improve that unless I find a fault.
