Early 99 7.3 zf6 truck ran great yesterday about 25 mile trip to work then parked 12 hours ran great another 25 miles back home, got in and drove about 20 miles today and was coming down a hill and pushed clutch in to downshift and truck died. Bumped key and truck started back but ran extremely rough and smoked like a train and hardly had enough power to pull itself but never stalled. Got pulled over and unplugged ICP which did have oil in connector and wiggled both valve cover connecters and it didn’t fix it so limped it to work and cut it off and it cranked back and after a few minutes running rough after cranking back it evening out and check engine light went off. Truck has new IPR, CPS,HPOP, NEW IDM from diesel tech of Chattanooga and PCM was sent off to diesel tech of Chattanooga and was determined to be good. Truck does have a PHP hydra with jelibilt tubes. Any help appreciated thank.
Welcome Riley - hopefully we can help you out here. Thank you for the details you've given us.
Can you read your codes? There will be some stored with that check engine light. Recommend FORScan and a compatible OBDII dongle for this.
Will scan tommorow I do have FORScan
What color was the smoke?
Black mostly
How is your engine oil level and fuel pressure?
Oil is good will check fuel pressure Tommorow hopefully.
Why did you replace all of these parts?
Replaced CPS due to a sudden stall of truck while going down the Highway and a crank no start condition which didn’t fix the problem so then changed IPR which fixed it. HPOP was changed due to it also blowing up while driving. And IDM was changed due to IDM code and had computer check to be sure.
Are the parts OEM from a reputable seller?
Parts are reputable with the IPR being motor craft and hpop being another trusted brand just can’t remember which one.
