What is everyone doing to clean the inside of their upper intake? I’m running the stock upper intake so as you know it’s all one piece. I’m thinking about soaking it in Simplegreen pro heavy duty degreaser for 24 hours. Does anyone object to this or have a better idea?
The stuff inside is going to laugh at simple green &/or soap and water.
High pressure is only going to touch about 30% inside area.
The most effective method, but even not 100% solution I've developed is this:
I have a plexiglass plate (use whatever you have) that I bolt to the bottom with sealer.
Leave core plugs in the rear of plenum, pipe plugs for vac T , PCV & rubber plug for EGR.
Stand on end & fill with100% full strength Super Clean.
Let set for DAYS. Scoop off crud that foams & floats to the top.
I have some really long bottle brushes that I run down plenum & runners.
Pour out, (I save and strain). Rinse with new SC, Take off plate, then you can high press wash/soap/water etc.
And be satisfied with what is left.
You can clean with whatever, let dry 100% & THEN do the above & have slightly better results.
I would say similar process, but a 50/50 mix of seafoam and acetone. I use this combo to clean neglected 2 stroke outboard carbs. The ones that have decades old 2 stroke mix gelled up in them. Leave overnight and rince out in the morning. If it needs a second treatment do it. Then pressure wash it out. Will get almost if not all of the junk out.
Thanks for all the replies! I’ll just start working my way down the list till I get it cleaned. I sand blasted the whole outside of the thing so I’m not going to paint it unless anything wrong happens during cleaning. I cleaned my lower intake with a bunch of stuff and wire brushes and aluminum brightener. Turned out good enough for me so I like to upper to match cosmetically. I’ll attach a picture to this post. Sadly the picture was taken before I installed my scorpion rockers so they will not be in the picture.
