Bed light duty winch install
Bob
We made our own winch / gin pole bed for a F-350 in the early ‘80s with an electric winch and it was very handy to use in plant process areas.
Appreciate the response. This will assist getting light loads up a ramp and into the 8 foot bed, nowhere near the 2,000 limit of the winch. I will hope to locate under the tool box and watch that I don't come in contact with tail gate or end of the bed.
My first idea is to mount on a wood platform and look for a way to have it use wheel wells as a stop or maybe use a set of bed fastener. I learned that bed fasteners are single use, that will add a few dollars to removing.
All input is welcome, thank you.

FWIW:
Some other, non-winch related ideas depending on what you are loading:
Depending on what you are loading a cable between the front bed tie downs and a come along will work and we loaded many a deer and other stuff that way by pulling it up a ramp.
Another option for loading things is a hitch mounted lift like I use to get deer in the truck, along with all kinds of other stuff. I have used mine to load all kinds of things form air compressors to my new tonneau cover. You can make an offset mount so it is off to the side.

I will go with bed fasteners as a stop. The tailgate set of bed fasteners are a little longer so using that extra length I will be able to swap out the closest set of bed fasteners to the toolbox and have something to anchor to close to the winch. Thanks and hope your freezer stays full!

I do like the portable winch cradle that could be used for other locations.

I do have a 8,000 going on a hitch mount cradle, for either front or rear use.
Thanks for sharing those pictures.
Does anyone think I can cheat 1/8" (just over 3mm) from the bolt length of the shorter bed fastener (114mm I think) or should I use the longer bed fastener (130mm I think) and just add washers to take up the extra length of the longer bolt? I realize I have a half inch obstacle in the bed without the winch in place with using the longer bolt.
Here's what I am seeing for the two bolts. The longer bolt is for the tailgate end of the bed..

I had the 2000lb Harbor Freight winch with square U-Channel mounted to it (U-channel had legs pointing down). This U-channel slipped right over the bottom crosspiece of the BackRack.
It stayed there very securely and I used that system for years to pull hundreds of riding mowers into the bed of my '97 7.3. I closed the business in 2016. It was a side-gig that was eating up more of my time than it was worth.
I went through a few of those winches over the years, being of HF quality, but all in all the system worked perfectly.
But you will definitely need to run a piece of stout steel tubing across the front lip of your bed. I'd advise against mounting it directly to the front rail of bed without reinforcement.
I once had a pic of the rig I used. If I can find it, I'll post it.
When looking I came across this portable winch set up. Looks like it could be pretty handy. I wonder if anchoring to the 2 tie downs on the lower part of the front bed would be enough to support pulling a few hundred pounds.
