Im looking at another grapple truck. Guy says it's a '94 900. Cat engine, 5 spd, 2 spd rear. He has only had it a year. Doesn't know what engine is in it.
Gonna try to go look at it Saturday. 1FTYA95X8RVA04064
To decode anything after 1990, some of the codes remain the same as used in the 1980 Master Part Catalog. Some of the 17 digit VIN codes are the same no mater what year, especially the first 4, and the model year code, and the assembly plant. If you know the history of the Ford heavy trucks, you'll know that Ford Heavy Truck lines were sold off to Freightliner, which was under one of the Daimler names. Thus DTNA, Daimler Trucks North America, is a source not just for VIN decodes, but for every component in the truck. This decode is from both sources. I'll give you the link to the VBOM below.
1FT = Ford Motor Co USA, Truck (Complete Vehicle)
Y = Class 8--33,001-55,000 lbs GVWR, air brakes
A95 = LTL900
X = Cat 3406 six cylinder diesel engine, 893 CID, 310 HP, more info in the VBOM
8 = Ford use check digit
R = 1994 model year, per your tag June 1993 production
V = Kentucky Truck Plant
A04064 = serial number
From the VBOM:
Color = Diamond White
Wheelbase = 195 inches
Transmission = Fuller RTLO ten speed manual (You said you were told 5 speed....not with that motor and GVWR....is this the same guy who sold you the cab swap truck? It may operate with a dual range-you shift 1 to 5 in low, then 1 to 5 in high. Nothing to do with the axle)
Rear axle = Eaton DS-402 tandem axles, 40,000 lbs capacity, 3.90 ratio (that's a single reduction axle, not a two speed)
Front axle = Ford steel 12,000 lb capacity.
All the other info about the truck as it came off the line is here. You need to scroll down to your Model year, assembly plant and serial number--RVA04064
Note that this truck was sold as a complete vehicle. It was a tractor with air lines, fifth wheel etc. Someone put that box and crane on it later in life.
I'm sure this truck carries an attractive price. As with the last truck I recall you posting about, there's a reason for that.
Thanks for the vin correction. I fix it in the op.
It is priced right. Not the same seller. Most these grapples were stretched cab chassis trucks or a long wheelbase straight truck like box or flatbed truck.
He did say 10 spd w/Hi/Low. I assumed it was a 5 with Hi/Low rear. That's on me.
Im going Sat to put eyes on it. Got a crew of trucks going to TX to start cleaning up. Im having the hydraulics worked on in my truck now. It won't be ready so looking at jumping on this one to get out on the job. Guy said 2 front tires and it's ready for the highway. But you know how that goes. If it's tight and ready to go I'm gonna get it.
Thanks for decoding it for me.
