Hello, I am planning to add a US made amp and sub to both a 2013 F150 with basic SYNC, no display, and a 2017 F250 SYNC w/ 4.2" screen, no amp.
I have used high-level inputs on amps before, when they were built into the amp, but I am clueless about LOC components otherwise, as well as DSPs. I ASSUME that I can purchase a quality LOC to tap into the system via a wire harness, also providing a remote wire, but I have concerns about the factory DSP, as well as time correction, pulling bass at high volume, etc. (at least in the F250) causing issues with the signal to the amp. Is this a valid concern? Is it possible to bypass these issues by disabling factory DSP / processing with FORscan, then just losing my time correction? How about other options / DSPs? Would a DSP be preferable here, or not applicable since I am only wanting to add an amp and a sub to the factory system at this time? Please advise. Thx!
Yes, Forscan can change the settings for different audio setups. Look at the F150 Forscan spreadsheet under the ACM tab. It will take some reading and research to understand all the settings. But you retain the factory head unit and all associated functions.
You can install an Audio Control d4.800 amp/dsp. It is highly adjustable with a connected PC and accepts speaker level inputs. They also make good line level converters.
You will need wiring diagrams for both vehicles to make the project easier.
For my 2025 im planning on using 2 amps the kicker key200.4 for the door speakers. And a key500.1 for the sub. Ive already used the 500.1 in my 2016 with the sony sync3 setup. I used the power wires to the factory sub as high level inputs, then used the app and test tones to resolve bass roll off. It works a bit too well so i wound up with a bass **** for fine tuning. The kicker amp made install super easy only needing 1 power wire run. Land a ground to the cab. The speaker wires work for remote turn on. Its a tiny amp that will do 300w @ 2 ohm or 500w@ 1 ohm. Plenty for what i like.
