Air conditioner

Hi all,
I have a 2009 Escape. The AC only puts out about 78 degrees. I put gauges on and I’m getting low side pressure of 35-40 psi, and high side of about 210 psi. Compressor is running, suction line is slightly cool. I’m wondering if I may have air/non-condensables in the system and if an evac and recharge would solve the problem. My only other guess is the EPR but I’m not sure how to troubleshoot it. I also wondered if maybe the heat damper door was slightly open. To test, I checked the air temp in the cabin versus the temp coming from the vent with only the blower on (no compressor) thinking that if the temp increased beyond the cabin temp, then that may be the problem. But, the air from the vent was the same as the cabin temp. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Check the operation of the temperature blend door by:

1. Warm engine
2. Compressor off
3. Vary temperature control from full cold to full hot.

If the blend door is working correctly, you will get ambient to slightly warmer in the full cold position to very hot in the full hot position with good control in between. If the temperature observations are correct, the blend door can be eliminated from the list of suspects.

I’m wondering if I may have air/non-condensables in the system
Doesn't sound like it. Your pressures appear completely normal. I had to fix my '10 Escape last month for that exact problem. I had almost 200 PSI static pressure in the system. Turns out one of the speeds on the blower motor was dead which caused the evaporator to freeze and the compressor then went into a vacuum and sucked in air. First time I'd ever seen that.

My only other guess is the EPR but I’m not sure how to troubleshoot it.
Don't know what you're referring to as an "EPR".

Yeah, I did as you said regarding the damper door. I got ambient at full cold, and increasing heat as I moved it to heat.
-Regarding EPR, I was referring to the metering device. It stood for evaporator pressure regulator back in the day.
-So, I have good operating pressures, but the suction line is not cold coming back to the compressor. Could there be something else causing outdoor air or hot cabin air to pass over the evaporator?
-Also, I haven't yet checked the pressure switch, but I doubt that's it, as the compressor stays running, it doesn't cycle on and off abnormally.

The metering device for refrigerant into the evaporator is the TXV valve. Usually, when they fail, it takes an extremely long time for the static pressures to equalize after the compressor is disengaged.

Cycling switch appears okay.

Does your blower motor run correctly at all manual speeds?

What's your static pressure at what ambient temp?

Blower runs correctly at all speeds. System equalizes upon shutdown, so TXV is not likely the issue. Thanks for mentioning static pressure at ambient. You reminded me that I can check for non-condensables with a PT chart. Will check it out. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense because it appears to be operating correctly.

Yep. That's the next thing I would have recommended.

Let us know how things go.
