Hi Tex.

Well, I can't help you with the warranty question (to be honest, never had a warrantied vehicle before) however, if this is NOT convered under warranty, you might be interested in what I have to say.

I have a '99 with 166 K with the very same "oil leak". When I was looking at the truck to buy, I noticed some dried and cakey oil residue on the left front corner of the oil pan, back behind the oil filter and a bit more towards the rear of the pan. I asked original owner about it and he said it was a slow drip due to a stripped out drain plug. Well there's nothing wrong with the drain plug, btw, and ive owned the truck a while since then and the first time we changed the oil we (my dad and I) inspected this "leak" thoroughly and couldn't spot a direct oil leak. As a matter of fact, it's never left a drop on my driveway, not a single one. She doesn't lose oil at all, doesn't even burn oil. I speculate that this sludge on the oil pan was from a leaky oil filter, at one point in time. Piece of mind perhaps.

Good luck getting it covered under warranty, and if you take it to the dealer, id be interested in what they have to say about it.

I had a similar problem which I just had fixed in my '99 350. The rear mains hardley ever go out in those diesels but dealers like to tell you they do because they can charge a lot to fix them. I had a bad seal in my high pressure oil pump. One way to tell if it is your high pressure oil pump is to look in the valley of the intake manifold to see if there is pooling there. It will ussually take a flashlight or good day light to see it. They tend to blow seals now and then and lose a lot of oil when they do. The oil will pool up in the valley of your intake and then drain down all over everything else which leads to mis diagnosis.

Tenn, thanks for the quick response and the advice. I do have the VIN number as we ran a Carfax report on the truck yesterday. That all looked great and it was in line with what the owner told us in regards to the truck's history. It had no mention of any leaks though. When I pointed the leak out to the owner he looked pretty surprised and seemed genuinely concerned also. We will call Ford on Monday and see what they have to say about it.

Sorry about digging up the old thread. I did a Google for "2002 F-250 oil leak" and this thread was at the top of the list. I didn't realize hold old it was until I had already hit submit.

Again, thanks for the response. I will be sure to let you know how this all works out. Hopefully it works out good as this truck is super sweet and I want it.

Still getting the hang of this message board and just saw that I had two more responses.

Smokin,
I did actually think drain plug for a minute when I saw the leak but I'm not so sure as the oil is up fairly high. Could still be a possibility though I guess. I have had that problem with the truck that I am driving now and solved it by using a brass washer between the plug and the pan. In regards to the filter, it is in that general area so who knows, maybe that could be it also. The rest of the motor is dry, lots of dust and stuff (motor compartment needs detailed), but no oil all over the motor. Just caked on oil in the left front corner.
Herby, thanks for advice. I will look at the area that you spoke of and see if there happens to be oil there. Thinking that there won't be as like I said earlier, the rest of the motor is pretty clean but dusty.

Thanks for the help guys. I am on my way out the door to go build oil well drills. Gotta work the weekend to help pay for the toys and prospective new toys.

We have decided to go ahead and buy the truck. I talked to the owner last night and we are all set to make the transaction today after work. I have one picture of the new one, it is below, but I cannot find any on here of the current one. I will take pics of both trucks together and post one later. In the meantime, here is the new one.

Oh, one more thing, just wanted to say that this has to be the friendliest discussion forum on the internet. I help moderate a Texas music forum and it is nothing like this. Thanks for the warm welcome!

Well the new addition seems to have been well taken care of, from what can be seen from the photograph. Good deal. Now that you have two, I hope you have a large garage. I think eventually I am going to have to BUILD a garage to fit my truck. Check out your user control panel and create an album for your trucks, where you can post multiple pictures. There you can also create a signature so the folks here know all about your trucks and the information necessary to better help you.

I have been visiting this forum since June and have been very impressed with the caliber of people here and all of the folks who are ready and willing to help you out of a jam or just give out helpful information. Every now and again we get someone in here who stirs the pot and becomes insulting, but the boys usually drive them out of the site pretty quick. We have some really good moderators here, too.

I will check out the photo album and get pics of both trucks in there this week. I have some ideas for photo spreads of the two beasts.

I just had a oil pan gasket leak fixed under the ford 100k 5 year warrenty. Im not the orignal owner of it either its a 2002 that I bought from the dealer I had it fixed at. They fixed my oil leak after tearing the front end apart and removing the engine. But I was very disapointed in the service they left numerous things loose and broke a few things as well. I ended up inspecting it myself and found these problems they failed to mention to me. They also replaced my turbo Y pipes and charged me almost 400 dollars to do so they said they werent covered under the 100k warrenty can anyone tell me if thats true or not? if so Im going to call ford about it
