F350 Steering

I finally have my 1959 F350 licensed and on the road. I did a cab swap a few years ago While the steering box was out of truck I adjusted it. The sloppy steering was noticeably better. Until my first asphalt test drive. About five miles down the road the steering got "vague. " Is that the right word for scary loose and steering like a boat? The adjustment is up against the frame practically. Is there a way to adjust the steering without removing it? I have another gear box and column original or from the donor. I have been driving this thing only on my property up until now. I was surprised how well it steered right up until it just started to wander like it warmed up or something.

I think you can only do so much with adjustment before you have to replace bushings. Then when done, fill it up with grease.

May want to reach out to Blue Top or Red Head, they rebuild PS boxes but they machine them to install bearings and not bushings into worn out castings.
I dont know if they rebuild non-PS boxes but worth a call.
I run a Blue Top PS box on my 81 F100 and made a big difference.
Good luck

Thanks. I think I'll check my spare column and see what it looks like. Maybe rebuild it if I can find parts and then swap them out.
