Play in steering?

I have a 95 F-350 that has play in the stearing. There is play when you go side to side. Definitely not in the front end. Does anyone know what this is? Thanks in advance.

Are you sure the tie-rod ends..idler arm..pittman arm..ball joints and all are solid?

If all the steering mechanism parts are in good shape..the issue could be slack in the steering gearbox itself..and can be adjusted.

How do you adjust the gearbox? Is it the same procedure for the f150's vs the f350's?

you might have someone move the steering wheel side to side while you look at the steering rod (connects your column to the steering box). I had one go bad and had the excessive play in the steering as you described.

I put the f350 dana 60 in my f250 and i've noticed the same thing. My mechs and I are convinced its because the center rod can "roll" forward and back. I got a brand new center link and it still did it. An earlier post addresses what is used to prevent this. Its a small bushing and washer that go between the link and the knuckle to hold it straight. Theres also a good pic.
