1996 Adding a Fuel Selector Valve?
I've been struggling with issues with the fuel delivery modules in the tanks. Either the pump doesn't put out enough fuel pressure for the 4.9 or the check-valves and shuttle valves are defective and the tanks cross-fill. I finally found two pumps that put out the correct pressure - unfortunately 2 months later, one of the pump's shuttle valve has died and my rear tank is cross-filling again.
I found this thread discussing the retro-fit on a Pollak 42-151 Fuel Selector Valve. However there's concern that the supply side pressures will exceed the 65psi specification of the Pollak Valve. Pollak indicates that you can plug unused connections on the valve. I am thinking of only using the fuel selector valve for the return lines (to fix my cross-filling issue). I am going to utilize the existing stock setup for the supply lines (the high pressure side).
My logic is that the supply side will have the external Ford supply line check valve (the 1L3Z-9J274-AA valves installed for the recall). So if the internal pump's supply side check valve fails, there's still the external check valve to prevent cross-flow on the supply side. The return side relies solely on the shuttle valve in the in-tank fuel delivery module. I figure that if I simply use the Pollak valve for the return, it will prevent cross-flow on the return side if the internal shuttle valve fails.
Thoughts on this? The vacuum controlled fuel pressure regulator should ensure that the return line's pressure is well below the 65psi limit of the Pollak valve, right? And even if that fuel pressure regulator fails, because the return line is open to the tank, shouldn't there be minimal pressure if any on the return line?
Next question is about fuel lines and connectors. My truck has the metal fittings that that use the round quick disconnect tool that looks like this:

My guess is that I'll buy two of these to transition the quick connect fittings to a barb and then run some hose clamps and rubber fuel line to the Pollak Selector Valve?
