I have a 1959 F600 I am working on I don't use it as a work truck trying to go towards more of a big pickup feel And I would like to change the steering column out to a tilt/telescoping column with power steering if that is an option (I'm not changing out the axles or anything else right now unless I need to to achieve my goal) I have read that the steering box and column is the same in the f350-f600 but would the steering column work that's made for a f100? I see columns for the f100s for sale but I don't know what needs to be changed out for it to work in the f100 much less these big trucks. Any help is appreciated there doesn't look to be much info online about these bigger trucks
The steering gear and wheel are bigger on the bigger trucks, making it easier to steer the heavy things. I guess you could downsize to a F100 but you would need to drill holes to mount it to the frame as it is a bit different. I actually have the column and wheel out of a F500 in my F100, it gives extra leverage for steering. Had to drill the fame and mess with the clutch return spring but other than that it worked well.
