Ok guys and gals, I’m completely stumped so far. I’ve got a 2000 with the V10, 169k. Replaced the AC compressor and dryer, and now running 9000+ in park warmed up. Of course RPMs drop when put into gear, but prior to the new parts, I was at about 7000 (max) when warmed up. My first thought was a vacuum leak, but I’ve checked everything, even had it checked for leaks and they came up with none. It’s running great, just RPMs up way higher than before. This is my first Ford, so I’m still learning. Any help would be greatly appreciated, or if anyone is near Florence, SC, that’d be even better. If I forget to add any info, just ask
Well I’ve always multiplied the RPMs by x1000, like it says on the dash. (Not being a smart as$, I promise).
But there's no 7 or 9 on your tach...
if it's below the 1, then it's less than 1,000 RPM. So I definitely hope you're at 900 and 700.
As for the higher RPMs, it could be unrelated. Was the battery or anything else unhooked/removed? I would have a hard time believing that the compressor would have had enough drag to slow the motor that much...and it's looking for an RPM range anyway and would 'idle down' on its own. However, if the battery was disconnected, it likely wiped its memory and needs to rebuild its fueling tables.
I’m sorry buddy, I’m not sure what my dumbas$ was even looking at when I replied, ugh. I was definitely talking about 700, and 900, I apologize. I didn’t disconnect the battery though. That’s what’s got me stumped, literally just the compressor and dryer, and the filter, seals, etc. I was wondering if this is just a huge coincidence and the idle air control valve or maybe the egr or pvc valve just happened to take a dive. Almost everything on it is still original. I’ve done the coil packs, plugs, wires, whole front end, all a month before messing the AC. Thanks for any help and again, I apologize

It's no problem - we all make silly mistakes.
As for your higher idle, to me it just sounds coincidental. I don't see how changing the compressor (the only thing that interacts with the rest of the motor) would cause your idle to jump. Without being there I don't think I can be any help, but if it's not running rough or throwing any codes...maybe check the throttle cable, make sure it isn't pinched or pulled or stuck?
are those values with the AC turned ON?
my 99 v10 will idle up anytime the AC is turned on. 900 in park, with the ac on doesnt sound out of line, and 700 in drive, ac on , is perfect.
