Rad overflow

Hey all. Have a 77 F150 with the 400. Wondering what everyone has for an antifreeze overflow.
I have a closed system. Excess antifreeze flows out the overflow hose, into the bottom of a
plastic bottle and that level goes up and down. Do some of you have
the hose that just vents to the ground? Wondering what came originally.
I sometimes have antifreeze coming out of the rad cap. Someone thought too much
antifreeze in the rad. So I drained a quart out and the rad just used to stuff in the overflow
container and filled itself back up. Tried a new cap even though the old cap was a couple years old.
It has been good for a few days.
Thanks
Jim

Search for a universal radiator recovery tank. Maybe at the local parts store. Original vented to ground I think. The tank kit (with cap) keeps all the air out of the system.

I have never seen a OEM overfloaw tank set up in any of my trucks, let alone any in the JY. X2 yes if you are wanting to catch it get a universial overlflow tank. bottle from Jegs, Spedway, Summit. And you do not run the tank 100% topped off, they seem to always burp some off until it is lower that you would think it would needs to be.

I overflow it into a gallon AF jug tied in beside the passenger side of radiator. I have a long copper tube cut into the jug handle that has an angle cut at bottom to hook hose to. I can remove cap. Might change jugs from the old Texaco jug to a generic no name red jug, or near clear white one? With it, it can purge excess under pressure, then it sucks it back in as it cools. Is easy to check level, with a stick. When I check the rad cold, I just take off the 13lb cap, and coolant is at the lip ... so it's full.

Picture is old enough to vote. It was a test, but it worked, so it stayed. AC hoses are gone now, and that brown patina is gone too. That old shroud busted later, have a new one of them now too.

Nothing had an overflow reservoir back in those days, and there's no need for one.

I don't put them on any classic , they look like just another home shopping channel buy.
