there’s definitely nothing wrong with either choice I just know personally for me I’m using our drw trucks to move heavy stuff and the diesel is a nice compliment to that.

I have a 24 CC DRW 7.3 with 3.73 and tow a 15K 5th wheel over have the time. No complaints. If I had it to do over I would probably go with the 4.3 gears but no real issue with the 10 speed and 3.73.

Personally for your use I would go SRW but get what you want. Many fleets are even going 7.3, I doubt if it is a resale down fall but I don't really buy for resale.

What packages are on these trucks? My salesman / friend of my sons, suggested at least Lariat ultimate for resale

Slide in camper is one example where a DRW gasser is a perfect setup; max payload, minimal GCVW.

I avoid driving any of our DRW trucks and couldn't stand driving one as my daily driver. When purchasing our next camper, will make sure a SRW truck can handle it properly.

I daily'ed a DRW for a few years. Wasn't much different than a SRW, with the exception that you couldn't fit through some drive-thrus. The mirrors are still the widest part.

To each their own I guess; I've been daily driving a DRW for 22 years without significant issue. I have two dualies and three one ton SRW's and don't find the DRW's to be much different to drive. Are you talking about a slide-in truck camper? If so, make sure you buy a small/light camper as even most F350 SRW's are well over GVWR with most slide-ins. I've been looking at Northern Lite truck campers (hard side, no slide) and based on feedback from the NL FB group, it's become obvious to me that my F350 DRW will be at or over GVWR with their 10-2 model so I've been considering their 9-6 instead. Their 8-11 and 9.6 push all SRW trucks to max or over. There are a great many truck campers out there that not even a dually can carry and be within it's ratings. Right tool for the job and all that. Here's an interesting video;

Next camper will probably be a 5th wheel. As for slide in's, can't remember the last time I've seen one around my neck of the woods.

Ah, I wasn't sure if you meant rv trailer/5er or slide-in truck camper. Around here we call slide-in's "campers" - they are very popular here as Northern Lite's plant is a mile from me and Bigfoot Industries is 45 minutes North. Okanagan campers/trailers were built here too once upon a time...

I want to say our '23 F350 SRW truck had a tag in the glovebox stating that it wasn't equipped to handle a slide in camper. Maybe because it doesn't have a rear sway bar?

Yeah they put that notice with the truck unless you have the camper package (even on an F450!). The rear sway bar is nice and it's part of the package but it isn't necessarily critical IMO, depending on the actual loaded weight of the slide-in......as long as one is within the GVWR/Payload, GAWR's and tire ratings, I wouldn't worry much about that pce of paper myself.

2 cents,
Dave

Its a certification that the truck has been spec'd out to handle the camper and includes CoG measurements specific to that truck. Of course stiffer springs and sway bar to counter the top heavy load. It just makes it easier to find the right slide in.

As far as a DRW daily, Hello! I love my DRW! Since I drive 120 miles a day @ 60 MPH, diesel was a no brainer for me as it gets better overall MPG, but thats just for me. Depending on ones daily drive the gas engine is just fine. Expect to fill up sooner, but thats about it.

If you can be happy with a XL DRW with gas, go for it. For me I love my diesel, but thats just me. A good aftermarket exhaust on the 6.3 will sound sweet too! Can't have that with a diesel. Sounds like you can make some pretty good deals if there are lot listers.
