What do you carry?

Recent other thread gave me this idea. My '65 is my daily and the Shasta is very often in tow. Always keep truck in top shape but usually camp in the middle of nowhere and can't risk getting stuck. Have to be prepared to deal with anything that may happen since often help can be hours away and sometimes (often) cell phone of little use. Even if close to town, best to deal with things first hand and be on my way. In addition to my usual tools here's a list of what I keep with me always. Additionally, since much of the new stuff is junk, all of my "spares" have been tested. I've learned my lesson there. Never again.
Anyway, from memory, here's my list. Prolly missing a few items. What would any of you add?

Spare belts
Rad hoses and assortment of fuel, transmission and heater hoses, etc
Spark plugs, cap rotor, spare pertronix, spare distributor, spare wires, coil
Carb kit including jets, power valves, diaphragms etc
Rad cap, gas cap
Starter. solenoid
Alternator, voltage regulator
Fuel pump
Wiper blades, spare bulbs
Head gasket in a can, radiator sealer, etc
Thermostat
Rtv sealant
Small wiring kit including some wire, connectors, tape etc
Tire repair kit including 12v compressor
Extra all fluids
Wd40 or Spray lube, Dry gas, Brake clean
Zip ties, Duct tape, Teflon tape, tie wire, hose clamps
Timing lite
As you can see, takes up less space than would think. As should be obvious, goal is to be able to deal with most anything short of catastrophic.

You carry more than what can be found in a lot of guys shops/garages. My hat’s off to you, along with about half the hair on my head these days . I carry basic tools , a spare Pertronix unit, and my AAA+ Premier card.

The way I figger, anything I can fix it here at home in an hour or less, can be fixed on the side of the road. As long as you're prepared. Last time I broke down was in the middle of nowhere. 20+ miles to nearest town. As luck would have it, the whole town decided to have a power outage. So, managed to limp into the next town nearly 60 miles from there. Not fun but...
I do carry AAA for both the truck and trailer. Sometimes not practical tho and sometimes quicker to fix it and be on my way. Plus would most likely have it towed home and fix myself anyway so why go thru all that.

That won't get the truck fixed but here in AZ that's pretty much a given. Although if the Glock is in the tool box it's prolly the 23.

Of course. Always have 2 in the truck and 1 in the trailer. Was questioning more about parts in case of breakdown.

I don't know if you have upgraded to a dual master cylinder, but I would carry spare brake hoses. A mapp gas torch can be useful. Jumper cables?

Dual pot with discs up front. Never had a brake hose fail unpredictably but guess no harm in having an extra. I suppose in an emergency I'd just pinch off the affected line and manage with 3 brakes. Not the kind of thing that would leave me stranded tho. Do you really carry spares?
In all my years of wrenching could count on 1 hand times I needed a torch to make a repair. What do you consider it useful for?

I have to say, when I saw "What do you carry" I was thinking more along the lines of revolver or Glock and then I see we did get down to that!

Impressive list of stuff you carry, I probably would do the same if I was traveling with mine, I do keep the basics in all of my trucks, tools, spare cap/rotor, belts, fluids, gorilla tape, zip tyes, bailing wire and band-aids
and they all have a pew pew and knife. I buy a toolbox for all my trucks since they are all reg cab, in my 4wd trucks I also keep recovery gear, shovel, bow saw, heavy rope along with the above mentioned stuff.
Where I go up in the mtns, ain't nobody coming to help, I also added a can of ether to fix a broken bead, used it once, saved swapping to my spare, note to self, don't drop below 10psi on the fronts with 305/75/16's on 10" wide rims 🤦‍♂️ duh, my bad.

If going up and I planned the trip, I'll throw my chainsaw and milk cate of chainsaw stuff in and strap it down, get some wood while wheeling and widen the trail where it needs it, never understood the SxS group, they will stop, cut a tree out of the trail, but... only wide enough to get the SxS through, seriously guys..?! 2 more mins and viola, whole trail open...

Sometimes heat is the only way to loosen crusty fasteners. Most likely not a problem in Arizona. I use a torch to light my bbq’s or fires. I had a smoked inner wheel bearing in Humboldt county on a rainy day. A torch did the job. I know. Getting into the weeds on useful items; however, I have had blown out brake hoses and frozen wheel bearings as a guide to the possibilities.

For the truck- Spare tire, factory jack, hei module, fire extinguisher, tire pump and plug kit, and a gallon of water. Also keep a tote with towing gear- straps, different size ***** and wrench to change it, winch controller, ****** block, etc. If its a long trip I'll take a tool set. In 21k miles I've only ever needed to change the pickup in the distributor on the side of the road, and I gave away the water to a guy that was overheating at a car show.

In the nearly 50k miles I've driven this truck the only thing that really left me stranded was the pertronix module. No warning, just took a crap. Fortunately was close to home so had my son bring me the spare. After that seemed silly not to carry an extra. Oh, and the fuel pump. Can't tell you how many I've had fail. I now keep only the type that I can rebuild myself. I think with the exception of a few, most issues won't leave you stranded. That's the beauty of these old trucks. Compression, fuel, spark. May not run perfectly but it'll run. And with a bandaid can limp into town and find a parts store. Problem is most of them don't stock much for a 60yr old truck. Which is precisely why I keep a good supply of parts myself. But that brings me to my earlier point. Better to have the part with me than sitting on a shelf.
As far as the other things you mentioned, I'll add 1 more. Rescue boards. Seems nowadays eeeeeverybody needs rescue boards! Especially the trucks that I know have never even driven through so much as a puddle.

Tony, where can you source the rebuild kits for the fuel pump?
