Hey guys, not an f100 but could use some basic carb knowledge.
i just replaced a mechanical fuel pump, and after about 15 sec running, the carb is leaking bunch of gas from the marked place.
any help? Thanks!
Dan I dont know what this "marked place" is as I dont see anything
Before you go pulling the carb apart take a fuel PSI test just before the carb.
I would almost bet you will find the PSI more than 5 PSI with that new pump.
If you do a search in the different truck years for flooded carb after a new pump you will find it is the pump.
BTW I had this happen to me on a none Ford car, pump was putting out 18+ PSI before I shut the motor down.

got you.. I have the pressure tester, just hook to the line and crank? Also, if the psi too high, what’s my solution beside replacing a pump? This pump is for this model and engine.
So, took apart the carb, needle and float all good. Checked and cleaned everything.
I checked the fuel pump pressure, getting 6-6.5 psi.
the manual says 4-6 psi for the car.
Kind of out of ideas, should I put different carburetor on? I doubt the psi difference will cause this leak.
Do a pressure test on the needle and seat and see if it can hold the pressure back, on the engine it did not. If the needle tip dries out they get hard and don't seal. Get a carb kit and rebuild it, cheaper than buying a carb.
It sounds like the pumps PSI is with in spec of 6 max PSI so that is not the problem in my book but if it was, if anyone comes across this, yes pump replacement with a different brand if you can.
So as someone said I would try a carb rebuild kit as the needle / seat are not sealing as they should.
Keep us posted
