Hello gents. Question on the FL2124S filter. Do all the OEM FL2124S filters have round holes or some have the rectangular holes? Went to Oreilly's and Autozone and both had ones with the rectangular holes. Both in Motorcraft boxes looking legit.

That's normal... theres an older thread on here on the 2124 filter when it came out. This was discussed...
No worries. Found some other threads. I am curious if the 8 round hole filter was first and then evolved to the rectangular one or are they are both being run from different suppliers? It would seem odd to have different suppliers running oil filters which FOMOCO specd a certein way/design.

It appears that the first filters had round holes and later evolved to rectangular holes.
I installed my first FL2124S a few days ago. I purchased it from Oreilly. The threads started fine, but I needed the wrench to screw it the rest of
the way until it was tight. It hasn't leaked. I'm thinking it's a manufacturing quirk? Has anyone else experienced this?
I think you might have left the old gasket stuck. Always want to make sure the old gasket comes off at can stay stuck on the motor side and thus double gasketing. this would make sense why you had a tough time cinching it the rest of the threads. I would not feel comfortable leaving it like that.

A double gasketed oil filter will generally let you know as soon as oil pressure builds up on the first start. HUGE mess.
And more verification on the round vs rectangular hole thing. Look on our website and it shows the old round hole version because that's the artwork Ford provides us but look at what's in our inventory and they're rectangular.
I had doubts that Oreilly and Autozone would expose themselves so blatantly to a lawsuit. I was worried about getting some counterfeits from Amazon which I had done in the past with no issues. I buy my Motorcraft oil at Wallmart but could not find 5W-30 so opted for 11W-30. I am in South Florida so low viscosity is not an issue for us, especially in the summer. I will make sure to follow those links when the time comes. Thanks acdii.

A 5w30 (of which there are a handful of commercially available options in CK-4) is the same operating viscosity as a 10w30 under SAE J300, the 5w30 has better pumpability but the kinematic viscosity requirements are the same. IMHO in south florida I would run a 15w40 and call it a day, effectively zero benefit to a 5w40 in your environment. I am 1500 miles north of you and run a 15w40 for 8-9 months of the year.

I have an extended warranty and don't want to give the company any excuses. As soon as the warranty is over, I will start with a heavier oil and some mods I have in mind.
