antenna removal

I'm taking the cowl off to do some lubrication to the pivot arms on the wiper mechanism...it's working but slow and I believe lubing will help.

I have the cowl loose but to remove it completely, I have to take the antenna off. 4 screws removed but the top part has to be removed
from the cable that comes up thru the cowl area. How is the cable separated from the white metal base it does into? tried to unscrew
it and it just spins. Is there some trick?

part # (tag still on it) is: E7TF-18812-BA. (if that matters)...

thx for any assistance

Antenna

The wire should pull out. The grommets on the pivot arms are replaceable, Oreilly has a kit. Be sure to mark the pivots left and right. I replaced all the grommets on a 94 last year and that quieted the noise. The hood has to be in the half way up to wiggle the cowl cover out.

I managed to get the cowl off with some patience ...a royal PITA for sure. I left the antenna connected...just dangling.

When I paint the hood and cowl (later in the summer), I will have to take the antenna off.....do I have to disconnect it
at the radio and fish it thru...if so, that is a ROYAL MAJOR PITA.... my thought here was to disconnect the antenna
from the radio, tie some string to it and fish the cable out leaving the string outside the....that way I could fish the
antenna back thru using the string.

surerly the cable disconnects from the mounting plate....

I loosened the hood hinge on both sides and moved it forward 1/4" and that gave me the needed room. a few scratches
but will be painting these two items (previous owner painted the hood with the WRONG color!)

You would think so but the one on my ‘89 disconnects behind the glove box.

For what it's worth, i recently had the cowl panel off of my '88 F-150 to get access to the wiper linkage, and the antenna cable did disconnect from the bottom of the antenna mount plate/bulkhead on mine. To be honest, i wasn't expecting a connector at that location, but it was clearly a coaxial (friction fit) connector with dielectric grease in there. It did require a little bit of force to disconnect, but the pot-metal plate did have a bit of corrosion on it after 36 years.

I was pleasantly surprised by the rust free condition so far. Only a small spot on the lower right/left bottom corner of the glass where it meets the fender. I coated it with
AmSoil metal protector spray. Cleaned up the pivot joints with lube and greased them well. Wiper motion is now smooth and operating good again.

I have some brand new Timken 4X4 wheel bearings for the front if anyone wants to trade me for them. They run around $80.00 CDN. I would do a swap for a windshield
motor if anyone interested. Each pay the shipping to the other.
