Have a 77 F150 with the 400. Looking to change the PS fluid. Tried to put a large syringe into the hole in the PS pump. Tube goes in a few inches but stop cause ti hits something.
Is there something in the pump that would stop allowing you to insert a syringe? Could not get any fluid out. Also what PS fluid to you guys use?
Thanks
Jim
If it is the plastic reservoir pump, I think it would be easier to remove the return line going in the bottom of the reservoir to get most of the fluid out.
Yes that is a older Ford design pump, so no big plastic cap with a built in plastic dip stick.
"You must bleed the system of all air before you start up your truck. You do this by removing the return line from the pump, fill the resivoir with fluid, turn the P/S pulley through by hand till fluid runs out the return line. Re-connect the return line to the pump and start the engine up. Cycle your steering wheel from one stop to the other a couple of times to bleed remaining air out. Check fluid level while engine is running an add more if required. DO NOT OVER FILL IT! The system will spew fluid all over the place if it is over filled. That's why the "full hot" and "full cold" levels are differant."
