Hey all, I'm looking for some help with a 1999 International Boom Truck Crane my father-in-law has. It has the 7.3 liter T444E that runs really rough and has no power. He's tried switching out many of the common sensors IPR, ICP, EGR, etc but nothing has improved the running of the engine. It runs rough at idle and wide open throttle. I'd like to capture some data from the engine and then get some help from the experts here analyzing it, but I'm wondering what metrics I should be logging to help with the analysis?
Just to add some more details that I found out from my father-in-law last night. The truck seems to start up in limp mode. By that, I mean there is no throttle response from the pedal, it's like it's not even connected to the ECM. I understand this could be an issue with the wiring, the TPS or IVS, but I am just throwing it out here. What my father-in-law found out was that if you hold the pedal down while starting the truck, the pedal will work. Also, during the winter when the temps were down below 20, the pedal worked fine. I know thats a bit random, but I'm just throwing all the details out in case it helps.
I went over last night and tried to pull some diagnostic data off of it but Forscan wouldn't work. I guess because of the protocol differences. I did have another little scanner so hooked that up and looked at a few sensors while at idle.
We had a pressure gauge hooked up to the fuel pressure regulator. The needle bounced between 60-90 psi, which I read might be normal for a mechanical pump (which he has).
Thats all I have for now. I'll go back this evening and look for DTCs. For some reason, I forgot to get those. It had a bunch in memory long ago and I'm not sure if they've come back since we cleared them.
If you have any ideas, I'm all ears. Otherwise, I plan on going through the T444E diagnostic manual and working my way through all the sensors and troubleshooting guides
