I’m having an issue that I can only describe as a chatter at the rear end. I have not figured out a way to reliably create the issue but it’s anywhere from 35-75 and will last about 1-2 seconds go away then happen again at random times. I’ll be rotating my tires soon just cause it’s time but I don’t think that’s gonna fix it. I have no other symptoms no vibration felt in the whole truck my shifts feel fine the engine pulls strong and milage all seems the same. Pretty stumped and would appreciate any ideas you guys can offer. It is equipped with an lsd diff and the sound is definitely further back than the transmission thinking at the rear left wheel as of now.
I had an '85 Thunderbird and at interstate speeds, if in a right hand curve, I heard a chatter. I figured was a maybe defect or nick in the axle at the edge where the bearing rode and right hand curve just moved the axle outwards enough to where it touched the end of the rollers.
Never did get to fix it, sold the car after 23 years though.
Johnny might be right but you probably need to do this anyway. You have to change the rear oil and use the special additive more often with a factory LSD. There's another factor - if you have tires of different diameters or even different air pressures on the axle, it can heat up the clutch in the rear and use up the fluid. I had a rear wheel bearing go out on a live rear axle once but it didn't chatter - it roared.
Thanks for the reply’s! Will definitely take the advice and change at least my rear differential fluid this weekend but, I did notice this while rotating my tires this weekend. Looks like that park brake cable has been slapping between my right leaf spring and the fuel tank. I’m gonna figure out something that will work but am I missing a clipping point for this or is this just normal placement and not a likely cause of the sound.

If that's at full droop I wouldn't worry. If that's ride height it might be a concern.
ANYWAY, if your noise is when driving straight (I think you mentioned highway speeds) it's very unlikely your CrapLok is to blame. Typically limited grip clutch chatter is low speed tight turns like maneuvering a parking lot.

It’s been a week since changing the fluid and have not heard a peep from the rear end and I was getting the sound at low speed just not as often. Seems like the fluid was the actual fix and I will update if something changes but we’re looking good now.
