New member introduction

I'm Eli. I recently bought a 2010 F150 FX4 SuperCrew. It has around 185,000 miles. So here is my issues that i definitely need more advice on...
It started to stall at red lights/stop signs only after driving(not at cold or warm starts). I replaced both cam sensors 2 times. Replaced both VCT solenoids. One was broke in half. I took it to Ford & at first they said $3,500 for timing chain replacement. Week later they call and say (we refuse to work on your truck because the oil passageways are partially clogged and frame is starting to rot. Even with a new motor it wouldn't be worth it. Please pay $250 so you can come get your vehicle)!!!
So i researched and found out that by unplugging both VCT solenoids it does not stall out and i am able to drive to & from work. It doesnt have the full power it's supposed to but it's drivable. I am going to check the catalytic converter to see if there's a problem but I'm only getting(by the dash gauges) an average of 8-10mpg and I'm worried that it may get worse by time i know exactly what needs done...
Any of you are able to help me with this i definitely need it and would forever be a friend... Thanks

****cant upload pics yet

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see any diagnostics being done to condemn the cam sensors or the solenoids, except for the broken one.

It sounds like the dealer diagnosed timing chain issues, and if I'm guessing right you have a 5.4 and the timing chain guides have gone bad. No amount or replacement solenoids and sensors will overcome this. With the solenoids unplugged, the PCM runs off of an assumed map that isn't as efficient or powerful as when the engine is working properly. It appears that this is where you are now. If the timing chains and guides need to be replaced, there's not really a way around that. If the oil passageways are all plugged up, likely due to poor maintenance, then the engine might not be worthy of a big repair like this without a complete overhaul. If the frame is badly compromised, this also might be a reason to not repair.

I'm making a lot of assumptions here. Get us some more info and we can get you further.

This is probably going to get really expensive. Like…I would go for a remanned engine in your spot. Of course, the truck is rusty, so cutting your losses now may be a better bet. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Anyway, your cat converters may be plugged or shot, but that’s due to the timing being off (think misfires) for likely a long time, so that tends to happen.

You are one lucky person to have purchased a condemned truck, but at least lucky enough to find some people willing to let you know before you sink thousands of dollars into a lost cause.

Thanks for the help

So when i first checked the trouble codes the only thing it came back with was the camshaft sensor bank 1. I replaced it. Checked codes again. Camshaft sensor bank 2. Replaced. Unhooked battery to reset everything. Drove probably a week and the stalling out never fully quit. It did ease up at first but it seemed to get worse(happen more often). Checked codes still only one that showed was Camshaft sensor bank 1 misfire cylinder 3. I checked all coils & changed plugs. Changed both Camshaft sensors again. Then that's when i took it to the ford dealership. After i got it back i found the ford guy on youtube and watch the video about the VCT solenoids. Unplugged them & ordered new ones with head gaskets and replaced them. With all the new parts done nothing solved my problem except unplugging the VCT solenoids. The whole time only one trouble code. I even tried unplugging the Camshaft sensors while it was running and nothing changed...
i think i may have a clogged cat because with the VCT Unhooked there's been a couple times it starts to jerk at highway speeds and the check engine light blinks (i think 8 or 10 times). I let off gas and slow to round 45mph and it goes away
