During my trouble shooting of my generator and voltage regulator, I noticed my Amp Meter needle is no longer in the center. Not sure what caused this. Any ideas?
That is showing a pretty heavy load. Can you give us more context about the picture?
What’s strange is when I disconnected the battery, no change with gauge. I also have an under dash voltage meter and it did not indicate a draw when the power was on
So the photo reflects engine off, battery disconnected, no other power source? Your supplemental volt meter reads 0V?
Yes for both. However if I reconnect the battery and start up, the supplemental gauge reads a little over 6 volts. Just puzzling why the stock amp meter is doing this.
You mentioned you were trouble shooting your charging system when this happened? Can you tell us what you were doing at the time. Maybe polarizing your generator? Replacing generator or voltage regulator. Anything like that?
Thanks!
PS,
If you tap at the back of gauge with a screw driver handle, will the needle self center?

I think it may have occurred polarizing the regulator. Removed the field wire and tapped the battery connection. Will try tapping the back of the gauge to see if will get to move
Glad it worked out for you!
In my younger years I worked as a Disc Jockey and a Broadcast Engineer at several radio stations. Some AM ones had multiple towers. Under each tower there was an ammeter and every 48 hours we would have to log the readings of the current at each tower. And the current reading ratios of those towers HAD to read within 5% of their licensed values. If for some reason you got above the 5% limit, a little "tap" on the meter face, would often get you a little lower value, and got the reading under the margin.
I learned not to use my bare finger though. I accidentally found out how RF likes to burn skin. LOL!
